Energy is the most important strategic investment in the globalised world.
Renewable energy is a must, due to the limited supplies of fossil fuels, and
their negative effect on the environment.
From this perspective, Megapol entered this sector in 2006-2007 and developed
an important wind energy project. In the following years, there was a great deal
of new investment in this area, and this prompted Megapol to move forward to
the new renewable energy business.
Turkey has the second biggest geothermal potential after Iceland, and two thirds
of this potential is in the Eagan area. This has prompted Megapol to focus on
searching for sources of geothermal energy, and to develop the project in Izmir
and around the city. In 2010, Megapol started research activities in the northern
part of Izmir, and obtained operating licenses by finding hot thermal water as a
result of drilling. Megapol plans to make new investments in the area of operating
licences between 2014 and 2018.
